About the Role
Tailorec is looking for a hands-on Machine Learning Engineer who can build, ship, and iterate rapidly. You will be the core mind behind Tailorec’s intelligence layer and own the development of the ML systems that make job search smart, personal, and trustworthy.
If you enjoy turning AI research into real products, love solving human problems with ML, and want to build at 0 to 1 speed, this is the perfect role for you.
Note: We maintain a high bar for engineering craft and expect thoughtful, high-quality work across ML pipelines, data processing, and system design.
Your Responsibilities
You’ll work directly with the founder and CTO to:
- Build the first complete version of our recommendation engine
- Implement NLP pipelines for resume and JD understanding
- Develop embeddings-based similarity search (pgvector, Pinecone, Chroma)
- Integrate with hosted LLMs for resume rewrites and job insights
- Collaborate with frontend and backend teams to create fast API endpoints
- Monitor and improve matching accuracy using real user data
- Prototype rapidly, test ideas weekly, and iterate based on feedback
- Play a core role in shaping ML roadmap, architecture, and best practices

Must Have Skills
You are a strong match if you have:
- Proficiency in Python
- Experience with embeddings, retrieval systems, and NLP
- Ability to build ranking or matching models
- Practical experience with vector search (pgvector preferred)
- Experience integrating ML into production APIs
- Ability to evaluate and improve model performance
- Comfort with LLM pipelines, prompt engineering, or hybrid ML systems
Nice to Have
These are bonuses, not requirements:
- Experience with LangChain or LlamaIndex
- Exposure to job search, resume parsing, or recommendation systems
- Knowledge of knowledge graphs or skill taxonomy systems
- Familiarity with FastAPI and basic deployment workflows
- Prior experience building AI features end to end
- Understanding of scam detection or anomaly detection
